He clarified that his intention was only to appreciate Rishabh Shetty’s craft, writing, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh's incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration (sic).” Emphasising his respect for cultural diversity, he added, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I've hurt anyone's sentiments, I sincerely apologise.” The controversy began when Ranveer recreated Shetty’s Daiva performance from the film’s climax and praised him directly from the stage. During his bit, he said, "I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body - that shot was amazing." While Rishabh Shetty was seen laughing in the moment, many later pointed out that calling daivas ghosts was inaccurate and disrespectful, as they are considered forest deities. Things escalated when additional footage surfaced showing Rishabh Shetty advising Ranveer not to mimic him, which sparked even more backlash. The moment has now opened a wider conversation about how public figures refer to culturally significant performances on major platforms. Ranveer’s apology continues to circulate online, drawing a mix of understanding and criticism.
